Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis

  1. The goal of my senior project is to raise awareness of the disease Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). I also want to provide a place where patients with ALS can go to be helped with the side effects of the diseases. Also I would want an area in the building where families can go to be educated on the disease and also deal with having a member diagnosed with ALS.
  2. I believe it is important because so little is known about the disease that people don’t realize they may actually have it until it is late into the disease. I also have had a personal experience with the disease and it would have helped to know what was happening before it was so bad into the disease.
  3. The only way to connect this to my career is that the disease has to do with science and genetics. I am majoring in biochemistry which would help with any research on finding the cure for this disease or doing more research to find out the true cause of ALS.
  4. My project will help to families and patients of ALS. It will also provide area for scientist to advance in the research for the cure of ALS. I hope that my organization will help uncover many mysteries of ALS as well as providing assistance to those already diagnosed.
  5. My project is very connected to people because it is basically just about helping people with ALS. It is connected to economics because it will help families learn to manage and prepare for the cost of having a family member with the disease. My project is connected to the environment because it provides scientist a safe place to do their research without it having an effect on anything else around them.
